“On my not so good mental and emotional days, the little terrarium on my office desk and at my house reminds me of my ‘family’. It reminds me of the values of empathy, compassion, peace and mutual cooperation. It’s my little ‘stress buster’. It’s a kind of my very own ‘meditative session’ right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of daily life”!

– In conversation with a corporate professional

Corporate professional Sonia’s eyes lit up while talking about how terrariums at her office desk and her house changed her day to day life one moment at a time.

When asked about how she got to know about the terrarium, Soniya shared, “I am from Dehradun. I come from a family which loves gardening. Back home, I used to love spending my time with my ‘green friends’ in the wide grandiose of nature. But after moving to a metropolitan city like Pune for a corporate job, I suddenly found myself right in the middle of the ‘cement concrete world’. I moved into a small residential apartment which was surrounded by ‘concrete jungle’ with minimum green foliage.

Even at my office, I was surrounded by the stressful monotony of corporate life where work and human interactions were restricted within the world of competitive, edgy, gray, white cubicles, working desks and computers. I was consistently glued to the screen finishing one work deadline after another. It was really a transition from ‘green to gray’! I must say, it was a vicious mix of stress, irritation, emotional outburst, home sickness, anxiety, depression, lack of energy and enthusiasm”.

Taking the conversation ahead, she looked at her terrarium in the house corner with a compassionate smile on her face and said-“But in these trying times of my life, a friend of mine introduced me to this concept of terrarium.  ‘Luxury Landscapes’ reintroduced my ‘green friends’ as ‘good Samaritan’ in a new innovative form.

She continued, “Basically ‘Terrarium’, is also called ‘glass garden’ which is an art of growing and maintaining living plants, flora enclosed within the glass containers. Initially I was hesitant about how this small glass garden will actually help me in my personal struggles, but I must say, it worked wonders”! Soniya asserted confidently.

“Since I introduced terrariums in my house and office space, I felt so much lively.  Beautiful greenery of flora of my office terrarium introduced ‘organic life’ and ‘colors’ in my dry, corporate work life. I realized that if I cannot go near mother nature, then with the help of terrarium, mother nature can come close to me with her bountiful bliss.

I observed my work colleagues were also more compassionate, positive in energy while interacting with me. It created a ‘feel good energy’ around my work desk. The very sight of this little beautiful green flora in my terrarium at my apartment and office space was emotionally and mentally soothing for me. And what I love the most about it is, I do not need to spend a lot of time maintaining this terrarium because it is a ‘self-sustaining ecosystem’ of plants. It’s my ‘slice of home away from my home’!”
